ZAHA (Zombie Apocalypse Has Arrived)

Chapter One

BRRIING BRRIING BRRIING!!! Thin, nimble fingers swiftly wrap themselves around an alarm clock, bubbling with excitement for the brand new day’s arrival, and put an end to its glorious triumph. 199 year old, Lassus Antiquis Hominis, doesn’t have the same ideology about mornings his alarm clock does.
I hate mornings, Lassus thinks frankly and plainly, how could a more trivial time of a day ever be created!
Lassus finally managed to pry his eyes open and they darted around helplessly in bewilderment. His eyes wandered as if his room was alien to him... His vision began to focus. It was then he realized this room was new to him. But how? Hadn’t he gone to bed comfortably in his cozy, enormously huge bed laden with pillows and stuffed animals? It was then, he began to feel the hard nature of his most prized possession. This was not his bed! Disgusted, he hopped out with such agility, the impact was inaudible.

Lassus investigated his room silently. He wondered why there were so many beds surrounding him when he was the only one there. His question was answered shortly afterward. Many heads seemed to appear from beneath the many blankets surrounding him. There were at least fifty people compacted in the same room with him! Lassus, swiftly arrived at the exit within seconds, leaving no trace of his presence behind. His seemingly dead fingers coldly wrapped around the door handle and turned it. He yanked. It would not budge. Again he tried. It would not budge. He investigated further. From his many years of experience with door handles, he came to the conclusion that a door handle would only react in such a manner if they were not on the inside, but on the outside...

Chapter 2

Lassus’s head swiveled around violently. He then noticed something he hadn’t realized before. He saw another door opposite of where he was standing labeled “ENTRYWAY TO TOWER VIEW.” He slowly walked toward it, and turned the handle even more slowly. He pushed the door open and was so shocked he recoiled backward so quickly he fell flat on a sleeping body. The lump under the covers wiggled ferociously, then calmed down and remained in its resting state. Lassus breathed in and out deeply, thoroughly relieved. He took another deep inhale and turned his head toward the ajar door. The sight was horrific. It was like he was watching a movie of an apocalypse. Or maybe he was in one...

The city below him was completely washed over with flames. The cries of the roaring flames seemed to echo with the people’s voices it had conquered which had once uttered the words, “Help me.” The clouds hung limp over the desiccated city as they mourned the loss of their neighbor. The sky was eerie and had a gray and reddish tint to it.This is it, Lassus thought, this is the apocalypse.

Chapter Three

Just then the “exit” door burst open and a man dressed in an army outfit stepped. His helmet had a huge crack that ran through it and seemed to connect to a jagged scar that ran down his face from his temple to his chin, barely missing his eye. His uniform had many tears and his boots seemed very worn. Panic was clearly written across his face as his eyes darted crazily across the room. He opened the control panel beside the door and flicked all the switches. Suddenly, the room streamed with light and several bodies began to rustle under their blankets. The man then shouted, “EVER’ONE UP!!! IT’S GONNA BE A HELLAVA BIG DAY FOR ALL YER WHO WANNA STAY ALIVE!!!”

Heads started popping out of blankets and bodies thereafter. Yawns and stretches comprised the room. And then, all was silent as everyone took in what Lassus had already...
